Danielle Evans is the author of the story collection “Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self,” which will be published by Riverhead in September.
“Danielle Evans is funny as hell. Which only makes all the heartbreak in these stories more surprising and satisfying,” said Victor LaValle.
“Quietly magnetic, Evans’ voice draws us into richly charged worlds where innocence isn’t lost but escaped,” said Sana Krasikov. “Delivered with a light touch that belies their maturity, these morally complex tales mark the arrival of a gifted new author.”
Her stories have appeared in The Paris Review, A Public Space, Callaloo and Phoebe, and been anthologized in The Best American Short Stories 2008 and 2010, as well as New Stories From The South.
Danielle earned her MFA in fiction from the Iowa Writers Workshop and was also a fellow at the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing.
She lives in Washington D.C., and teaches fiction writing at American University.
