John Wray is the author of the new novel “Lowboy,” as well as two earlier novels, “The Right Hand of Sleep” and “Canaan’s Tongue.”
Esquire, in naming Wray’s one of 2008′s “Best and Brightest,” noted that “Wray’s books are each beautifully dark and evocative — not just because he knows how to write a plot that will make your eyes and heart freeze in place, but because he manages to appropriate the mode of a genre or time and then twist it and make it glow until the end product is something entirely new.”
The New York Times called “Lowboy” “uncompromising, often gripping and generally excellent.” The San Francisco Chronicle raved, “masterful.”
In 2007, Granta named him one of the 20 best young American novelists. He is also the recipient of a Whiting Award.
