Anthony Swofford is the author of the novel “Exit A,” and “Jarhead,” his bestselling memoir of serving as a U.S. marine in the first Gulf War.
“Jarhead” was praised by the New York Times’ Michiko Kakutani as “a searing contribution to the literature of combat,” and turned into an acclaimed film by director Sam Mendes.
Swofford, a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, also won the PEN/Martha Albrand Award and the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award for “Jarhead.”
He lives in New York.
